Otherwise the Jays would not have dealt Austin Martin and Simeon Woods-Richardson ahead of FridayĆ¢€™s MLB trade deadline to the Minnesota Twins in exchange for solid right-handed starter Jose Berrios.

Berrios has gone 7-5 with a 3.48 ERA and 126 strikeouts in 121.2 innings this season. He was an all-star in 2018 and 2019 and is posting a career-best strikeout to walks ratio and is 55-43 with a 4.08 ERA over his six-year career.

The Jays control Berrios through at least next season.

Baseball America ranked Martin, the fifth pick of the 2020 draft, as TorontoĆ¢€™s top prospect and Woods-Richardson, who was the key to the return in the Marcus Stroman deal a few years ago, as No. 4.
