Bolton MP handed Star of Excellence award from Pakistans president

Yasmin Qureshi, Bolton South East MP, was awarded the Sitara-e-Quaid-i-Azam or ‘Star of Excellence’ award by Dr Arif Alvi, President of Pakistan, an award previously given to the Mayor of London, Sadiq Khan.

She has been given this award for ‘services to relationship building’ between Britain and Pakistan.

Ms Qureshi, who has been campaigning recently for Pakistan to be taken off the ‘red-list’ on the country’s Covid-19 travel list, meaning people have to quarantine in a hotel on their return, said she was delighted with the award.

She said: “It’s such a huge honour and privilege to be conferred the ‘Sitara-e-Quaid-i-Azam’ (‘Star of Excellence’) from the president of Pakistan for services to relationship building between Pakistan and the UK.”

She also celebrated Pakistan’s independence day on August 14 with the message 'Jashne Azadi Mubarak'.
