  • Thus wraps up a fairly uneventful second day of the 2021 AFL trade period, thanks for joining us.

Just the one deal was completed today, with Geelong trading Nathan Kreuger and pick 55 to Collingwood in exchange for pick 41.

Kreuger became the first player to move clubs during the trade period, and the fourth player overall to find a new home when free agency is considered.

The Swans also dug their heels in on talented midfielder Jordan Dawson, even floating the prospect of the South Australian native heading to the pre-season draft if the Crows don’t offer something appropriate in return.

Adam Cerra could be handed an early birthday present as his move to Carlton edges closer.

But in order for Cerra to be in navy Blue by the time he turns 22 on Thursday, Fremantle will first have to appease Geelong for outgoing Cat Jordan Clark.

Sources from both the Blues and Fremantle have told The Age a deal could be struck as early as Wednesday as parties move closer to agreeing on the midfielder’s trade value.

Who will the agonising wait end for next?

Hot on the heels of Neville Jetta joining Collingwood, there have been a few more assistant coach moves in the AFL today.

Tim Clarke heads back to Carlton, Brad Miller joins Gold Coast, and Craig Jennings has been hired by GWS.

What are your thoughts on the length of the AFL trade period?

Sydney football manager Charlie Gardiner hasn’t ruled out trading talented midfielder Jordan Dawson to Port Adelaide.

Dawson has requested a trade to the Crows in order to return to his native South Australia.

And while the Swans haven’t spoken to the Power yet, if the Crows fail to offer up adequate compensation for the loss of Dawson, then Sydney might open negotiations with Port Adelaide.

“Jordan has nominated Adelaide, which he is entitled to do. Our interest is to secure the right deal for him, so we’d obviously be open to discussions (with Port Adelaide),” Gardiner told AFL Trade Radio.

And as Daniel Cherny reported earlier, the Swans would be willing to take the extreme step of subjecting Dawson to the uncertainty of the pre-season draft, a move which would see Sydney lose him for nothing.

“It is one possible outcome. But our priority is to reach a fair and reasonable outcome for a very high-quality player,” Gardiner said.

“We had a five-year deal in front of him. It was a significant offer.”

Here’s what the indicative order for the 2021 AFL draft looks like following the Kreuger deal.

    1. Jake Kelly (Adelaide) joined Essendon as an unrestricted free agent. Adelaide received pick 42 (AFL) as compensation.
    2. Mabior Chol (Richmond) joined Gold Coast as an unrestricted free agent. Richmond received pick 38 (AFL) as compensation.
    3. George Hewett (Sydney) joined Carlton as a restricted free agent. Sydney received pick 39 (AFL) as compensation.
    4. Collingwood traded a future second-round pick, a future third-round pick and a future fourth-round pick to Gold Coast in exchange for picks 22, 46, 58, 79 and a future fourth-round pick.
    5. Geelong traded Nathan Kreuger and pick 55 to Collingwood in exchange for pick 41.

Collingwood have traded pick 41 to Geelong for Nathan Kreuger and pick 55. It will be the first player deal of the trade period.

Kreuger, 22, is a tall forward from South Australia who played two AFL games for the Cats, both this year.

It’s actually the second time he’s been traded. In 2018 he joined the Cats in a trade with Carlton who had access to him as a state league player via their concessions from the AFL.
