Blues head of list management Nick Austin says the arrival of Adam Cerra at Ikon Park is a significant coup for the football club.

“We’ve had the clear intention this off-season to improve our midfield group and with Adam, we’re welcoming a real classy on-baller whose best football is still to come,” Austin said.

“He’s rarely missed a game at senior level since stepping into the AFL environment as an 18 year old. He knows where to run to get the footy and when he gets it, good things happen.

“We were really keen to bring him to our football club for everything he brings to the table. He sees the game really well, he’s a student of the game and he has a real drive within himself to continue to get better.

“An exciting thing with Adam is that he has only just turned 22 today, so we’re excited to see what he is going to do in the navy blue for the next 10 years, and we’re sure our fans are going to love what he brings to the table.”

“With the addition of Adam, as well as George Hewett as a free agent, we think we’ve bolstered our midfield mix and really complemented our current our playing list heading into the 2022 season.”

UPDATED: The Western Bulldogs look almost certain to land Hawks free agent Tim O’Brien before Friday’s deadline however there will still processes such as a medical and contract details being worked through this week before an agreement could be reached.

Tim O’Brien’s move to the Western Bulldogs is reportedly complete with the free agent leaving the Hawks for greener pastures at Whitten Oval.

O’Brien’s move on Thursday afternoon should see him replace Lewis Young who is leaving the Dogs, possibly today, after agreeing to a move to Carlton.

O’Brien has been linked with the Bulldogs for several weeks due to his versatility as a key defender or key forward.

Hawks list manager Mark McKenzie told AFL trade radio earlier this afternoon that O’Brien would leave with the club’s best wishes.

“It looks like it, we know the Bulldogs have interest,” McKenzie said.

“Tim’s been fantastic for us. If it does go that way, we wish him all the best.”

Hawthorn list manager Mark McKenzie has confirmed the Hawks are no longer chasing Port Adelaide ruckman Peter Ladhams but Collingwood big man Max Lynch is still in their thoughts.

McKenzie told AFL trade radio on Thursday that the draft picks requested by the Power were too much.

“It’s been reported in recent days that we won’t be heading down that line,” McKenzie said on Thursday.

“Pete is a great player, but doesn’t match up with what we would have to outlay from a picks point of view.

“We’ve removed ourselves from that discussion.”

Sydney has had a long interest in Ladhams so he could find a home there if they can agree to the right price.

Finn Maginness and Daniel Howe have extended their stays at Hawthorn.

Maginness has signed a two-year extension that will take him until the end of 2023 while Howe has inked a one-year extension to take his time at Hawthorn to eight years after a great end to the 2021 season.

The Hawks have their eye on Collingwood ruckman Max Lynch as Jonathon Ceglar explores opportunities elsewhere with Geelong weighing him up as a prospect if Darcy Fort leaves the Cats, with Geelong still thinking Fort is a possibility to remain.

Hawks head of Football Rob McCartney said Howe fit into the club’s plans after playing 20 games in 2021.

“Now 26 years old and with 87 senior games worth of experience under his belt, Dan is starting to hit his prime,” McCartney said.

“We saw this year, especially in the latter stages, that Dan really thrived and had some strong impact on games.

“So, we’re hopeful of seeing him continue this kind of output into 2022.”

Maginness has only played three games in two years at AFL level but has made strides with his development.

“Finn has really applied himself to learning and understanding what it takes to be a professional footballer in the first two years of his career,” McCartney said.

“His endurance capacity and work ethic are well-renowned, and we’re really hopeful that he can continue to develop his game over the course of the next two years.

“It’s exciting to be able to lock away a few of these youngsters as we continue to usher in this new era at Hawthorn.”

The Hawks have already re-signed Dylan Moore, Lachlan Bramble and Jacob Koschitzke.

Adam Cerra will become a Carlton player with the Blues set to hand over pick 6 and a future third rounder to the Dockers to secure the midfielder.

The Dockers have secured Will Brodie from the Gold Coast, a big bodied midfielder who spent five years at the Suns after being a top 10 pick.

Dockers now have picks 19 and 22 with the haggling to start with Geelong over which pick they hand over for Jordan Clark.

Sam Petrevski-Seton will also depart the Blues and join West Coast for pick 52.

Adam Cerra is reportedly on his way to Carlton and pick six and a future third round pick and are heading to the Fremantle Dockers.

Cerra was seen as the best available player during this trade period and the Herald Sun, AFL trade radio and AFL.com.au are reporting the deal has been done.

    We now await official notification.

Carlton could have Fremantle midfielder Adam Cerra by the end of the day.

The Herald Sun and AFL.com.au are reporting the Blues and Dockers have almost completed a deal with Cerra to head to Carlton for pick six in this year’s draft and some other pick swaps.

Time will tell whether the deal is done today or whether those pick swaps could take longer to finalise.

Submissions have been made. The jury will go out.

There is an adjournment until 2pm.

AFL lawyer Jeff Gleeson: “The look is terrible. If anything Greene leans in.

    “Three weeks is not enough.”
