“I’m absolutely rapt to get it done. Now I can just focus on the footy stuff and get going into next year. I can’t wait,” O’Brien said.

“I’m looking forward to meeting everyone. I think the list is in a good spot. There’s a lot of players around my age. It fit well for me and the club.

“Playing in a Grand Final, they’re right in that window, so that was really appealing.”

The 27-year-old has played 97 games over eight seasons with the Hawks including 19 games this past season.

“We’re thrilled to welcome Tim to the Bulldogs, and we’re looking forward to what he will add to our playing group,” Bulldogs’ general manager of list management and football projects Sam Power said.

“We’ve seen Tim’s strengths at either end of the ground during his time at the Hawks, but we see him adding the most value to our team as a defender.

“We’re excited by his ability to read the play and win back possession through his intercept marking, and he has impressive speed for a tall player.”

Greater Western Sydney antagonist Toby Greene will miss the first five matches of the 2022 season after the league’s appeals board upheld an AFL challenge against the tribunal’s initial three-match suspension for making intentional contact with field umpire Matt Stevic.

The board on Thursday dismissed Greene’s claim that he had been trying to avoid Stevic at three-quarter time of the Giants’ elimination final win over Sydney in late August, with board chairman Murray Kellam saying in his verdict that Greene’s argument had been implausible.

Specifically, the board upheld the AFL appeal on the grounds that the three-match ban had been “manifestly inadequate.”

It was the board’s view that there was a “need to send a strong message” to footballers at all levels that such conduct was unacceptable and that there was a “need for the penalty imposed to adequately denounce the conduct.”

“Respect for umpires is at the heart of the integrity of the game,” said Kellam, before adding that “the player implausibly maintained that he was trying to avoid contact with the umpire.”

Toby Greene has been suspended by the AFL appeals board for six matches.

    More to come.

Gold Coast Suns says their strategy to minimise their picks in this year’s draft will help them keep key players in the seasons to come.

The Suns sent Will Brodie, pick 19, pick 61 and pick 69 in this year’s draft to Fremantle for a 2022 second round and fourth round pick.

Suns list manager Craig Cameron thanked Brodie for his years at the club playing 25 games since being drafted in 2016.

“I’d like to thank Will for his commitment to the Gold Coast Suns over the past five years and we wish him all the best as he explores a new opportunity with Fremantle,” Cameron said.

“We’ve had a clear strategy this off-season; with minimal draft selections in 2021, to enhance our future draft position as well as consolidating the core of our list as we step forward into the next phase of the club’s development.”

The Suns have one first round, three second round, two third round and two fourth round picks.

Blues head of list management Nick Austin says the arrival of Adam Cerra at Ikon Park is a significant coup for the football club.

“We’ve had the clear intention this off-season to improve our midfield group and with Adam, we’re welcoming a real classy on-baller whose best football is still to come,” Austin said.

“He’s rarely missed a game at senior level since stepping into the AFL environment as an 18 year old. He knows where to run to get the footy and when he gets it, good things happen.

“We were really keen to bring him to our football club for everything he brings to the table. He sees the game really well, he’s a student of the game and he has a real drive within himself to continue to get better.

“An exciting thing with Adam is that he has only just turned 22 today, so we’re excited to see what he is going to do in the navy blue for the next 10 years, and we’re sure our fans are going to love what he brings to the table.”

“With the addition of Adam, as well as George Hewett as a free agent, we think we’ve bolstered our midfield mix and really complemented our current our playing list heading into the 2022 season.”
